Description
It's been a few days playing around with the Mandelbrot explorer Frax. I am still quite fascinated by the scale of the Mandelbrot set, my latest images being made at the highest zoom level the app allows.
If an image showing the entire Mandelbrot set was the size of planet Earth, this image would show an area roughly 2 inches across, so this is quite a macro image of this beautiful world made from pure mathematics.
This picture has a nice swirly rotational symmetry to it, and I have rendered it with a flowing texture that both in colour and form remind of of the metallic iridescence of display feathers, particularly those of pheasants or birds of paradise.
Still, I let the shape rather than the colour dictate the title (though I think I have used it for something else before), as the main pattern is one that looks like a brittle star or similar echinoderm. A brittle star is not technically a starfish, but close enough for artistic titling purposes.
