Description
The main focus of my uploads has, naturally, been my own art and photos, but from time to time I also indulge in the hobby of philately, especially enjoying the exquisite beauty of older steel engraved stamps. The artistic work having gone into many issues was quite staggering, some stamps I have I know took months to engrave.
I'm not sure about what time this one took, but regardless, it is by many considered one of - if not THE - most beautiful postage stamp ever issued in Britain or the Commonwealth. Engraved by J.A.C.Harrison to a design by Harold Nelson, originally for the 1924 British Empire Exhibition, but then ended up being used for the Postal Union Congress in 1929 instead.
I have scanned it in high detail at a finely calibrated height on a scanner meant for 35mm photographic film so that one can enjoy the lovely detail of this apex of postage stamps in larger sizes.
