Artist's Description
The latest in my line of world maps, this one based on a recent pastel painting in which I used a sponge to smudge pastels onto a lightly-textured paper, masking it with strips of paper to make an interesting and subtle striped pattern: vertical for the seas and horizontal for the continents, a bit of a shadow added underneath the land to make it stand out better from the background and to give the picture a slight three-dimensional effect.
About Hakon Soreide
Born in Norway in 1974, and discovering I knew how to paint in 1999, my work spans a wide variety of styles and media, all the way from traditional oils, pencil drawings and encaustics to digital paintings, 3D renderings and computer generated imagery, with styles ranging from the completely abstract to the sensually figurative.
