Thanks, Carol. Yes, it was an interesting place, but only a short visit. I'll go again some day.

What a wonderful photograph. I envy you your trip to Pompeii!

Artist's Description

I recently went to the surprisingly well-preserved antique city of Pompeii for the first time, and I found it quite fascinating, particularly liking the original wall paintings still surviving, though of course they would have been a lot fresher when they originally were excavated.

I have added a bit of saturation and texture to it to bring out the subtle patterning and at least a hint of the rich original colours.

About Hakon Soreide

Hakon Soreide

Born in Norway in 1974, and discovering I knew how to paint in 1999, my work spans a wide variety of styles and media, all the way from traditional oils, pencil drawings and encaustics to digital paintings, 3D renderings and computer generated imagery, with styles ranging from the completely abstract to the sensually figurative.
