Description
I do enjoy paintings with musical motifs, and I have a soft spot for hurdy-gurdies, mostly because one of my favourite musicians, Loreena McKennitt, frequently uses it to great effect in her music.
This painting, painted in 1828, shows a family of travelling musicians and entertainers. The boy holding a ring next to the dog indicates he probably has the dog doing tricks, making it jump through hoops while the parents are playing their instruments.
