Artist's Description

Cassell's "Book of Birds" from 1869 is perhaps the most definite guide to the world's birds at the time of publishing and also perhaps the most beautifully illustrated set of volumes on birds ever.

The four-volume set of books is highly sought-after for both its steel engravings as well as its exquisite multi-colour lithograph colour plates.

I have scanned all the pictures in the books at a very high resolution, cleaning up some unintended process marks from printing, made the background texture uniform across the series, yet also leaving some of the yellowing and other signs of age that give them added character 150 years after they were printed. The scanning resolution coupled with the amazing detail of the originals allow for beautiful prints far bigger than the size of the books.

About Hakon Soreide

Hakon Soreide

Born in Norway in 1974, and discovering I knew how to paint in 1999, my work spans a wide variety of styles and media, all the way from traditional oils, pencil drawings and encaustics to digital paintings, 3D renderings and computer generated imagery, with styles ranging from the completely abstract to the sensually figurative.
