Description
A close-up photo of a tar-treated traditional thick-plank Norwegian farmhouse in the eastern part of the country, the deep colour of the tar bringing out the texture of the wood as well as preserving it against weather and insects.
I have heard that originally walls were not as often treated with tar as made with planks and logs of tar-rich wood, the tar of which would seep out and darken the walls as they were heated up by sunlight in summer. At some point people started adding hot tar directly on the raw wood to preserve them better as well as for the aesthetic look.
